Sailmakers have apparently operated from this site since the
middle of the last century; though it has only operated as a pub since 1988.
Elsewhere on these pages I have bemoaned the passing of the
Zoological on Beverley Road. It's a shame they didn't pass the name to the Sailmakers. You go
through the arch into a courtyard containing assorted caged parrots and other fauna. The effect is
distinctly odd.
The pub itself is certainly worth a visit if you are en route to or from the Drypool Bridge or Alfred
Gelder Street.
