It's fair to consider Alfred Gelder Street to be the dividing line
in Hull. You can think of its west end as the point at which old town and modern city centre meet.
You can think of much of its length as the northern boundary of the historic city; and, if you want
to stretch a point, you can think of its eastern end - at Drypool Bridge - as the point at which
east and west Hull meet.
On this street you will see the magnificent old Guildhall; and you
will also see the equally impressive new Crown Courts, one of the most fitting new buildings you
are likely to see anywhere.
You will find three fine pubs on the stretch of Alfred Gelder
Street covered by the map (another, the White Hart, is included in the Drypool section). Also on
this map is the George Hotel, on the oddly-named "Land of Green Ginger" together with a
new addition to the scene, the Varsity at Hull.
