Inside, the results are impressive. Mansfield's renovations tend
to have a high quality feel to them, and this is no exception.
On the right as you enter the front door is a comfortable lounge
area; on the left a pool and games room.

Right, are you listening carefully?
Once upon a time there was a pub called the Black
Prince. It looked very much like the photo on the right.
It's owners, Mansfield Brewery, came along and spent a great deal
of money modernising it, as you can see in the second picture on the right.
Finally, what had been the
Black Prince re-emerged as the Friar Tuck. This addition to the Cottingham scene opened its doors
to the world on 22 September 1997. The end result may have had an odd name for a pub, but was a
significant improvement on what had been there before. It can be seen in the third picture on the
right.
Maybe we weren't the only people to think that "Friar
Tuck" was a naff name. Six months after it emerged it disappeared again, hopefully for ever:
and the Black Prince again graced the Cottingham scene.
